Characters: Colonies are clusters of tubular corallites. Budding is extratentacular. Corallites bifurcate at approximately 10 millimetre intervals and frequently join. Costae are in two alternating orders and are strongly beaded.
Colour: Pale brown.
Similar Species: Favia amicorum which also has plocoid corallites formed by extratentacular budding.
Habitat: Recorded only from shallow lagoons.
Abundance: Rare.
Taxonomic Note: A species complex. Considered a species of Barabattoia (= Favia) by many authors and Dipsastraea (= Favia) by Huang, Benzoni, Fukami et al. (2014). See Wijsman-Best (1972, 1974). Molecular study shows that the presence of extratentacular budding is not a generic-level character, hence inclusion of this species in genus Favia.
