Characters: Colonies are massive or form thick plates. Valleys are short. Walls are thick and rounded, with evenly exsert irregularly dentate septa. Columellae may be well developed.

Colour: Brown, usually with greenish valleys.

Similar Species: Platygyra pini, which has shorter, more uniform valleys and less development of columellae. P. lamellina has similar skeletal structures but is meandroid; P. verweyi has smaller corallites.

Habitat: Most reef environments.

Abundance: Common.
